The quarter horse is a stock type horse which has small refined heads with straight profiles. They have broad chests and very powerful hindquarters. They generally stand at 14 to 16 hands tall and some may even grow to be 17 hands tall. Their upper and lower body is very muscular and strong. There are 2 main types of quarter horses which include stock and racing. The stock type horses are shorter and their bodies are generally more compact but agile. |
The racing quarter horse is built to sprint and therefore they are generally taller and their muscles tend to be a lot smoother than the stock type quarter horse. Racing quarter horses resemble the thoroughbred exactly. The race horse also has longer legs and refined muzzles. All types of quarter horses have refined powers of speed, agility; stamina and willingness which defines them from other horse breeds.
Quarter Horse Colors
The quarter horse is also recognized in the following colors; bay, brown, black, red, gray, palomino and blue roan. Years ago quarter horses had spotted coats and pinto colors but they were not recognized as quarter horses but indeed they were. Nowadays registries recognized these different types of colors.
