Horse Supplement
Introduction to Horse Supplements
| Supplements are concentrated substances that can be added to horse’s feed ration to make up for a deficiency in specific nutrients or to address certain conditions. Supplements typically come in powder or pelleted form that you can add as a top dressing to the feed. |
|
Some contain molasses or dehydrated beet pulp, making the supplement very palatable for your horse.

Joint support supplements like Cosequin have become very popular and contain ingredients such as glucosamine hydrochloride, chondroitin sulfate and maganese ascorbate which work together to support joint health. Other supplements that are commonly given to horses are mineral supplements and fat supplements. |
Electrolytes are mineral (potassium & salt) supplements that help to maintain the correct fluid balance in the blood.
| Heavy sweating during hard work or extremely hot weather may cause loss of large amounts of electrolytes, which need to be replaced. Fat supplements are a source of concentrated energy and help to promote healthy skin and coats. |
