Holstein Horses

16hh - 17hh

All colors are permissible. Bay with black points and grey are the most common.

The Holstein is probably the oldest of the German warmbloods. As early as 1300 they were being bred for warhorses and mounts for knights in tournaments. Later the Holstein was famous for their distinctive high knee action and great presence as a carriage horse. The addition of Thoroughbred blood infused after WWII resulted in a lighter horse with a smoother gait.

The breed is known noted for powerful action, making it successful in upper levels of dressage as well as show jumping. One of the world's greatest show jumpers was the Holsteiner Meteor. It's boldness and scope makes it the best eventing prospect of all the German warmbloods. Holsteiners are not bred in the same quantity as other warmbloods, resulting in less variation in overall type.
