Dutch Warmblood Horses

16hh - 17hh

All solid colors but bay or brown are the most common.

The Dutch Warmblood is possibly the greatest success story of all the European competition horses. Perfected in a relatively short time by crossing native Gelderland and Gröningen mares with Thoroughbred stallions from all over the world, typically ones from the best racing lines. The result is a riding horse of harmonious proportions, an easy ground-covering stride at all paces and an unflappable temperament.

Dutch breeders use a highly efficient performance-based selection system and despite their relative newness have achieved success at top international level in dressage, show jumping and carriage driving. Particular attention is paid to the individual's temperament and as a result behavioral problems rarely arise.

Know for their athletic, elastic action, strong legs and unusually good hooves, the Dutch Warmblood is suited for any number of competitive sports. Legendary jumping superstar Milton, the world's most successful show jumper, was a Dutch Warmblood cross. Thanks to Olympic success in dressage, the breed has enjoyed rising popularity in that sport as well. And it's carriage horse roots give the versatile Dutch Warmblood great success in competition driving at the international level.
