- Select and purchase thoroughbred horses.
- Ensure that horses are well exercised.
- Supervise horse training for competitive sports.
- Train jockeys, riders and stable hands to manage the horses.
- Supervise facilities and horse equipment.
- Manage all breeding programs, training classes.

Horse breeder associations function right around the world and theyspecialize in promotion and preservation of various breeds of horses. Horse breeder associations may specialize and be dedicated to one particular breed of horse such as the Quarter Horse Breeders Association of America.
